Welcome to Pathland!

Invade, destroy, repeat.


This is an Idle/Incremental Tower-Offense game.
As an Idle game it will progress without much input.
As an Incremental game the invaders will get stronger as more buttons are clicked.
As a Tower-Offense game your objective is to destroy as many defenders as possible.

At the end of each level is a settlement. Each settlement is the home of at least one Hero that needs vanquishing before you can proceed. When all the vanquishing is done the settlement collapses and the next level becomes available. Towers and Heroes get stronger as you progress.

Boss

Bosses are very powerful allies with unique abilities. Only one boss can be active at a time. With your new boss leadership you also have some additional control over the minions. There is an Advanced Tactics option in the Minions tab; this will keep minions at the begining of the path until they have reached capacity or a boss is summoned.

Select Boss To Summon determines which boss will be summoned next.
Boss Position determines how far the Boss should try to move.
Active Ability button will activate your current bosses active ability.

Inventory/Items

This is also where you manage your inventory. Effects from equipped items are applied at deployment and are applied even if there isn't an active boss.
The checkboxes next to the item types filter which items are displayed in the inventory list.
The button with the lock icon (🔓/🔒) can lock/unlock an item. Items that are Locked and/or Equipped cannot be sold.

Minions

When a Minion's spawn pool fills up the minions are automatically sent to the barracks to await deployment.
When the barracks is ready the next squad is deployed. Deploy times increase based on how far you are along the path.
You can view your active minions, spawn pools, and baracks in the Minions tab.
Different types of minions have different size squads. You have a limited number of Active Squads.

Clear Baracks removes all minions currently in the baracks to make space for some new minions.
Sacrifice Deployed Minions removes all currently deployed minions to make space for some new minions.


Notes:

  • All upgrades are applied when a minion is deployed and do not affect already deployed minions.
  • For images and information about each minion type check out the Unit Info tab.

Armory

You have access to the Armory!

The Armory has new equipment to increase damage and health.
Money Pit provides no direct benefit but increases the resources gained from Regroup.
Regroup will reset the armory and gain additional resources for more upgrades.


Notes:

  • You gain ruples from the snakes, destroying towers, and vanquishing heroes.
  • Regroup will become available after you have clicked enough buttons.
  • When you regroup upgrades in the armory will be reset to 0/X and you will gain shillins(ß) based on how many buttons you have clicked.

Gym

Good button clicking! You have unlocked the Gym!
Here you can train your minions to increase their move speed and rate of attack.
You can also unlock several new minion types.

Armory Multiplier increases a multiplier for all minion upgrades in the armory.
Active Squads Limit++ increases the maximum squad deployed. Does not reset when you research.
Unlock Automate Armory unlocks the ability to automatically purchase upgrades in the armory. If all minion upgrades are maxed out you can also automatically Regroup.
Research will reset the gym and gain additional resources for more upgrades.


Notes:

  • If you like idle games as much as me then a good place to start in the gym is 'Unlock Automate Armory' then check the armory for some new checkboxes.
  • Armory Multiplier also increases shillins gained.
  • Each minion counts as a fraction of a squad depending on Minions Per Deploy.

Lab

Good button clicking! You have unlocked the Lab!
Here you can genetically modify your minions to increase their Attack Range and Impact Radius.

You can also unlock elemental minions. See the Unit Info tab for more information.

Gym Multiplier increases a multiplier for all minion upgrades in the gym.
Upgrade Limit++ increases the upgrade limit for all tabs. Does not reset.
Unlock Automate Gym unlocks the ability to automatically purchase upgrades in the gym. If all minion upgrades are maxed out you can also automatically Research.
Recruit will reset the lab and gain additional resources for more upgrades.


Notes:

  • If the barracks is full it means there is no room for more active minions. You can click 'Sacrifice Deployed Minions' if you need to try some different minions.
  • If the spawn pools are stopped it means the baracks is full; try unchecking some of the weaker minions.

Office

Good button clicking! You have unlocked the Office and Bosses!
The office has Boss enhancements and upgrades Minions Per Deploy and Spawn Delay. This will allow you to deploy MULTITUDES OF MINIONS!.

Minions Per Deploy increases the number of minions in a squad.
Spawn Delay reduces the amount of time it takes to spawn a minion.

Lab Multiplier increases a multiplier for all minion upgrades in the lab.
Deploy Time-- reduces the amount of time it takes to deploy minions. Does not reset.
Unlock Automate Lab unlocks the ability to automatically purchase upgrades in the Lab. If all minion upgrades are maxed out you can also automatically Recruit.
Restructure will reset the Office and gain additional resources for more upgrades.


Notes:

  • Some upgrades are more effective for different minions. Click a minion type in the 'Unit Info' tab and hover over the value for more information.
  • Some bosses have synergy with different minions, try some different combinations.

Forge

Good button clicking! You have unlocked the Forge!
You will now collect items from heroes. You can equip items on the boss tab.
You can select to automatically sell items below a certain item score or automatically upgrade equppied items.
Starting Level selects the level you will start at after a regroup, research, recruit, or restructure.

You can also buy back the most recently sold Item. If there is an Item available to buy back it will be visible under the Auto-Sell area.

Items have a type, score, and attributes.
The score is indicated in the top right of each item.
The first attribute is unique to the type of item and only effects the boss.
Each additional attribute can effect a variety of targets and have a variety of effects.
When an item has achieved its current maximum potential it can be reforged to increase its potential.

Lock an item by clicking on the button with a Lock icon. This will prevent accidentally selling it.
Sell an item to gain resources used to upgrade items
Equip an item to gain its effects when units are deployed.

Reroll will replace the attribute. This will reset the upgrades on that attribute.
Upgrade will increase the power of the attribute.
Prestige will increase the maximum potential of the attribute.
Reforge an item to increase the maximum potential of all stats and attributes.

Office Multiplier increases a multiplier for all unit upgrades in the office.
Auto Sell Limit++ increases the maximum auto sell score. Items that are locked or equipped will not be auto-sold regardless of the score.
Auto Forge Limit++ increases the maximum an equipped item can be auto forged.
Starting Level++ increases the maximum starting level.

Store

Good button clicking! You have unlocked the Store!
Gaining resources for the store is different than the previous tiers, you gain Womba(σ) by maximizing item attributes. You can buy items, exchange resources, and buy transient blessings and curses.

Item Chest gives one random item with the score determined by feats and chest level.
Transient Boost either bless your invaders or curse the defenders.
Exchange 1 womba for lower resources.

This is the last tab in the game and currently there are no plans for additional content.


Notes:

  • All of the items in the store are improved by the "Items Reforged" feat. Wait to spend all your womba for some better deals.

Statistics

Shows Data related to each unit type.

Cycles counts the game-time for the data-set.
Deploy Count counts the number of each unit type that was deployed, summoned, built, etc.
Damage Done counts actual damage done. It takes into account any damage reduction and does not count damage done over the targets current health.
Damage Taken counts incoming damage. It takes the incoming damage before any damage reduction and counts incoming damage over the units' current health.

Notes:
  • If the deploy count is different than unit count the format is "deploy count(unit count)"
  • Damage Taken is the initial incoming damage before any damage reduction.
  • Damage Done is the actual damage done after all damage reduction is calculated.
  • Healing Done does not count passive regeneration for towers and heroes.
  • Sorting is disabled for the current run.
  • Data is not saved between sessions; it resets when the page loads.

Feats

When you accomplish a feat, such as regrouping the required amount, you earn bonuses for different parts of the game.

Feats are cumulative and track your progress. They also give various bonuses to different aspects of the game.

Each time a feat reaches Level 12 the level resets and the rank increases. The feat score is twelve times the rank plus the Level (12R+L). Your overall score the sum of all feat scores times 100 plus the current level's percent complete.

Each feat bonus is based on the rank and level. The feat bonus (FB) is three times the rank plus the level (3R+L).

  • Regroups
    • Counts each Regroup. Gives a bonus to each armory minion upgrade and a decrease to armory upgrade costs.
    • Armory minion upgrade bonus is just the feat bonus.
    • armory minion upgrade += FB
    • Armory discount is the feat bonus plus the feat bonus to the .5 power.
    • armory prices -= FB + FB**.5
  • Researches
    • Counts each Research. Gives a bonus to each gym minion upgrade and a decrease to gym upgrade costs.

  • Recruits

  • Heroes Vanquished
    • Counts each Hero whose health is reduced to 0. The benefit is an increase to tokens gained on research.
    • It is a multiplier equal to the feat bonus to the .55 power.

  • Bosses Summoned
    • Counts each boss summoned. The benefit is an increase to units gained on recruit.
    • It is a multiplier equal to the feat bonus to the .6 power.
    • units gained *= FB**.6
  • Items Sold
    • Count each item sold. The benefit is an increase to vincula gained on restructure or selling items.
    • The Restructure bonus is a multiplier equal to the feat bonus to the .65 power (FB**.65)
    • restructure vincula gained *= FB**.65
    • The item selling bonus is equal to the feat bonus
    • item sell price += FB
  • Minions Deployed
    • Counts each minion deployed. The benefit is a multiplier for all Boss stats.
    • It is a multiplier equal to one twentieth of the feat bonus.
    • boss stat *= 1+(FB/20)
  • Maximum Level Cleared
    • Tracks the highest level to have the all heroes vanquished. The benefit is an increased chance of getting higher level items.
    • The item drop formula is more complex but the feat helps, trust me.
  • Items Reforged
    • Counts the number of items Reforged. The benefit is a multiplier to the items available in the store.
    • Transient boost bonus is different for each boost.
    • boost power = (base + addend*FB) * multiplier**FB
    • The exchange rate increase depends on each currency.
    • exchange rate * (8*FB)**.8 + (8*FB) + 8
  • Boosts Purchased
    • Counts the number of Transient Boosts Purchased. The benefit is an increase to damage taken by defenders and a reduction to damage taken by invaders.
    • This damage modification takes effect before unit specific damage reduction. Damage is not reduced below 1 from this effect.
    • Boost Power (BP) = (.4*FB)**.8 * 8
    • BP has a maximum value of 99. Which first happens at a FB of 59 or a feat rank of 16-11 or about 20k total boosts purchased.
    • Invader Damage Taken = damage*(1-(BP/100)) - BP
    • Defender Damage Taken = damage/(1-(BP/200)) + BP

Options

Stop and Go buttons will pause and resume the game. Spacebar will also stop and start the game.
FPS toggles Frames Per Second display in the upper left corner.
Simple Minion List When checked will show less data in the minions tab.
Compact Minion List When checked will group minions by type instead of showing individual minions.
Map Redraw Rate sets how frequently the Map should re-draw; this does not directly effect actual game speed.
Info Panel Refresh Rate sets how frequently to update the information panel in the lower half of the screen; this does not directly effect the actual game speed.
Quality Sets the quality of the art.
Style Switch between light and dark styles.
Colorblind This will toggle colors.
Auto-click Limit Sets the highest level auto-click will click, this can be used to adjust Regroup/etc times. Note: This setting only limits minion upgrades.
Restart Zone Sets the zone that will be started on a restart (Regroup/etc). Max level cleared feats will only increase on the highest zone reached.
Export and Import will allow you to export save data and import save data. Useful if you want to backup your save, share your save, or switch to a different computer.
Display Details toggles drawing extra information on the Map.
Clear Data and Start Over deletes any save data and reloads a fresh game from the beginning.

Unit Info

The Unit Info Tab contains information about different unit types. Click on the name of a unit for more details.

  • Health: When a unit's health drops to zero it dies.
  • Damage: The amount of health that will be removed from a target when it is hit by a projectile from this unit.
  • Move Speed: How fast a unit moves (Towers do not move).
  • Attack Delay: The time between attacks.
  • Attack Range: How far a unit can attack.
  • Spawn Delay: The amount of time to spawning a unit in its spawn pool.
  • Projectile Speed: How fast a projectile travels.
  • Impact Radius: The size of the impact; affects Balistic and Blast type attacks.
  • Target Count: The number of enemies a unit can target each time it attacks.
  • Attack Charges: The maximum number of targets each projectile can hit.
  • Chain Range: The maximum distance an attack can bounce between subsequent targets if it has remaining attack charges.
  • Chain Damage Reduction: The damage reduction for each subsequent target.
  • Aura Range: The distance an aura will effect units.
  • Aura Power: The strength of an Aura.
  • Ability Duration:How long a boss's active ability will last.
  • Ability Cooldown:How long it takes to recharge a boss's active ability after the ability duration has expired.
  • Damage Reduction: Reduces the incoming damage from projectiles.
  • Initial MinionsNot currently used
  • Minions Per Deploy The number of minions that are deployed in each squad.

The Unit Info Tab does not contain details about the small green snakes. Their details are:

Keyboard Shortcuts

Square brackets indicate a hotkey. For example [=] next to Help in the menu on the left indicates pressing the = button will take you to this help tab.

There are a few hotkeys that are not documented in that manner.

  • [Spacebar]Spacebar will pause and resume the game.
  • [M]M will enable all spawn pools.
  • [Alt+M]Alt+M will disable all spawn pools.
  • [Ctrl+Z]Ctrl+Z will toggle the boss auto-activate skill checkbox.
  • [Ctrl+Left/Right Arrows]Ctrl+Left/Right Arrows will change the boss position slider.

The Display Details in the Options tab can be toggled by holding CTRL+SHIFT+ALT and pressing the following keys:

Game Mechanics

Here are some miscelanious game mechanics and information.

  • Some browsers will slow the game speeds if it is not the active tab. To compensate MoM will track up to an hour of slowness and run more quickly to catch up when able to.
  • Any Invaders that fall behind are left behind and will be sacrificed for progress.
  • Towers within a settlement have increased defense.
  • There is only one point that matters for hit detection and checking range; which is generally the very center of the unit.
  • Blue projectiles and impacts are from the Defenders and only effect the Invaders.
  • Red projectils and impacts are from the Invaders and only effect the Defenders.
  • Some game mechanics do have limits, such as Move Speed, to avoid the game breaking.
  • The notation for multiple targets is [target count]x[damage] or 2x1 if it can hit 2 targets for 1 damage each. Target count is omitted if it is 1.
  • The notation for multiple attack charges is [damage]...[attack charges] 1...2 if it will do 1 damage and bounce to 1 additional target hitting a total of 2 targets. Attack charges is omitted if it is 1.
  • Towers will slowly repair overtime based on Level.
  • Higher levels have slower deploy times.
  • Minions can be healed up to a maximum of 4x their starting health.
  • Minions Per Deploy also effects how much each minion counts towards 'Active Minions'. Each deploy counts as one active squad.
  • If all the minions makes your game run slowly then reduce the quality in the Options tab.

You found the help tab help section that helps explain the help tab! I refer to the items in the left menu as tabs.

The help tab has information about the game and what effects clicking different buttons have. Each tab also has a blue help button to show the relevant help information for that tab.

About

A few years ago I set out to find an Idle Tower-Offense game; I couldn't find one so I decided to make one. Between family, work, and everything else I would brush off my trusty text editor and push some buttons now and again.

I wanted to get back to basics and avoid extra library bloat, as such this entire project was written in vanilla javascript with basic text editors (mostly notepad++). I don't know much about chiaroscuro shading so the game elements are drawn with basic HTML5 canvas shapes instead of pre-rendered assets. As a result the whole game is data friendly at under 500kB (0.0005GB) and does not need an internet connection after the initial load.

Catching Up: 0

Many browsers slow processing on background tabs and windows which can reduce the game speed, this should catch you up (up to 1 hour).

Reducing the Quality or hiding the map in the Options tab can speed up the catch-up timer.
Reloading the page will clear the remaining catch-up timer.
